  Judaism

Judaism founded over 3500 years ago in the Middle East by Moses.  It shares a history with both Christianity and Islam.

Judaism has of 14 million followers worldwide.  They believe in one God with whom they have a covenant.  Jews believe that they have been chosen specially by God, who monitors people and rewards good deeds and punishes evil ones.  They follow their religious text called the Torah which they believe contains the words and laws of God as revealed to Moses.

January 22 Tu B'Shevat Celebration of spring. 
March 21 Purim Celebration of the rescue of ancient Jews from a plot to destroy them as told in the book of Esther.
April 20-26 Passover An annual feast commerating the end of Jewish slavery in Egypt

Yom Hashoah
Holocaust Remembrance Day

In memory of the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust
June 9 Shavuot It marks the conclusion of the seven weeks following Passover. It is a celebration of the harvest of the first fruits and the commemoration of God giving of the Torah and Commandments to Mosses at Mount Sinai

July 20

17th Tammuz Marks the Fall of Jerusalem
August 10 Tish B'Av A day of mourning which commemorates the destruction of the first and second Temples, as well as many other extremely tragic events which have happened on this day to the Jewish people.
September 30 Rosh Hashanah Celebrates the Jewish New Year.
October 9 Yom Kippur Day of Atonement.  Begins at sundown.
October 14 Sukkot Begins 5 days after Yom Kippur.  A celebration of the harvest and the protection of the people of Israel as they wandered in the desert on their way to find the Promised Land. 
October 21 Shemini Atzeret It is the final assembly day, which formally ends the season of the High Holy Days.
October 21 Simchat Torah Celebrates the renewal of the annual cycle of Torah readings.
December 22 Hannukah The Jewish Festival of Lights which celebrates the miracle and the oil lamp that only had enough oil left for one day, but the oil lasted for eight.
December 19 10th Tevet Commemoration of the Siege of Jerusalem
