All F and J visa holders must file a federal tax return by April 15 even if you do not work in the United States.

Federal tax forms

1040NR, 1040NR-EZ, 8843 are now available on the World Wide Web. The web page address to access these forms and instructions for completing the forms is: http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/formspubs/index.html

The general web page address for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is: http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/

Forms obtained off the web can be used as official documents. Tax forms can be also obtained at the reference desk in the Library.

You can also call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040.

Students employed by MTU who did not receive a W-2 form indicating earnings and taxations should contact the Payroll Office at 487-2130.

You must also file a tax form for the State of Michigan if you had earnings. These forms are available at any post office.
